A Review of...Failure to Launch

Went to the movies Friday night. Something I haven't done in a while.

Overall this past season hasn't held much interest for me movie wize. With the exception of Brokeback Mt. I really haven't even wanted to go to the movies.

Then along cane this cute lil movie Failure to Launch. A cute lil film that is not overly original but fun none the less.
Staring Matthew McConaughey who lets face it I will spend $7 to do almost anything. (but I digress) Sara Jessica Parker, Terry Bradshaw, and Kathy Bates. With an admirable supporting cast.
McConaughey plays a mooch who at 35 still lives at home with his parents (Bates & Bradshaw). Yes they love him but enough is enough, and now that they are retired they want to "get to know eachother again". Something apparently they cannot do while their son still lives at home.

So they take advice from friends and hire him a girlfriend(Parker). It's her job to make him fall maddly in love and want to move out. Therefore leaving everyone happy-save for Parker who is now guilt riden for tricking this obviously love damaged guy.

All is happy in the end however, just as all romantic comedy should be. There are some very funny parts I especially liked the 'chipmonk scene' slapstick as it was.

A very cute film with a couple touching moments.

Tonight was the Finale

Earlier in the month I blogged about my secret passion....Project Runway.

Well, tonight was the last episode, and Cloe Dao won. Her collection was beautiful, and she should be very proud of herself. Maybe one day I'll own one of her outfits. There was one of her dresses that would be great for my commitment ceremony in Oct.

A word about the other two of the final three... I thought that Daniel V. had the "safe" collection. However, he is young and there is a lot of time for him to grow and mature into a fantastic designer I loved a lot of his pieces throughout the show.
Santino, Santino.... What can I say I think I really have to agree with what has been said in the past- much of what is designed is not flattering to the female form. However, having said that, I will admit that your line was the one I was most eager to see. (not that my opinion makes an ounce of difference to these folks anyway).

Alas, Farewell to my guilty pleasure. See you Season 3. Wouldn't miss it for the world!!!!

The Oscars

Sunday Night, I Spent a very enjoyable evening watching the Oscars , with my good friend Carol. She, like me, is a real movie buff. Sadly, I had not seen many of the movies nominated for Best Picture. The exception being, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN . Which in my opinion should have won. However, as stated, I had only seen 1 out of the 5.

This year, the men were dashing in tuxes, and the dresses were lovely. I didn't see any I thought were downright tasteless. (with a possible exception going to Naomi Watts in a dress that looked like a shredded bridal gown)

Hats off to John Stewart who did an adermirable job as host. Overall it was a fantastic show. I didn't see near the stage crew that I did last year, and if it weren't for the win of "It's hard out there for a pimp" complete with a performance of the song (a show stopper to say the least-the very least) the whole show would have been a triumph!

I use to have Oscar parties but no one ever showed up so I quit. I would print off all the nominees from the internet and have a real festive environment. I really got excited over the whole thing. I looked forward to them every year. I guess I still do. There is just something about the people we consider icons getting dressed up and celebrating their accomplishments while sharing it with us the lay people....As a little girl I dreamed of being a recipient.

Ok, I admit it I have a guilty pleasure!

As hard as it is for me to admit this, I am addicted to PROJECT RUNWAY .
I know it's hard to believe. I abhore reality TV in general. However, this show, I really like. And this is why...

I think, because I'm an artist, I can see the value in creativity. In this program the contestants are fashion designers and they have to create a garmet on the fly that coinsides with the "theme" of that days challange. To be creative at all is one thing, but to be creative on demand is quite another. These people are all very talented(well most of them) And since I cannot sew a stright line,(believe me I've tried) they all have my most humble respect!!!

As far as reality shows in general, I will conceed to watching the first couple seasons of FEAR FACTOR. Only to be grossed out like the rest of the nation. When they started doing the couples FF, I told D(my guy) that I didn't care how much he loved me I wasn't going to eat bugs for him. Or anything else disgusting. I might be a feirdo but I have my limits, and being covered in bugs, or anything else, ie fish guts, toxic waste etc. ,qualifies!

It's Time

I have made a decision. I'm going to live my life like I have very little time left.
I'm going to wear the jewelry and clothes I love all the time instead of just special occasions. I'm going to drink out of the glasses I save for "company" (I'm gonna use the towels too!) I'm going to start projects and plan to finish them.

I've wasted a lot of time this winter whining about the fact that it's cold outside!!! I'm going to get off my ass and start doing some stuff. Damn I'm really annoyed with myself!!! I'm going to stop wondering if there is "something interesting on Dr. Phil-he and Oprah have disappointed me as of late. I'm going to turn off the T.V. and I'm going to bundle up, get out of the house!!!

Every year I enter an art exhibit where all the artist who exhibit are handicapped in some way will be my forth year and I have about a month and a half to finish my projects. (it seems to me they moved the deadline up a month but it's my own time management issue so I'll just quit bitchin)

A Valentine to the women in my life...My Sisters!!!

SISTERS

A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day, drinking iced tea and visiting with her Mother. As they talked about life, about marriage, about the responsibilities of life and the obligations of adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance upon her daughter. "Don't forget your Sisters," she advised, swirling the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. "They'll be more important as you get older. No matter how much you love your husband, no matter how much you love the children you may have, you are still going to need Sisters. Remember to go places with them now and then; do things with them. "Remember that 'Sisters' means ALL the women... your girlfriends, your daughters, and all your other women relatives too. "You'll need other women. Women always do." 'What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman thought. 'Haven't I just gotten married? Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Surely my husband and the family we may start will be all I need to make my life worthwhile!' But she listened to her Mother . She kept contact with her Sisters and made more women friends each year. As the years tumbled by, one after another, she gradually came to understand that her Mom really knew what she was talking about. As time and nature work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman, Sisters are the mainstays of her life. After more than 50 years of living in this world, here is what I've learned: THIS SAYS IT ALL: Time passes. Life happens. Distance separates. Children grow up. Jobs come and go. Love waxes and wanes. Men don't do what they're supposed to do. Hearts break. Parents die. Colleagues forget favors. Careers end. BUT......... Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach. When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end. Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you. Or come in and carry you out. Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers, Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life! The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other. Every day, we need each other still.

A Small Apology

in the past few days, I have not been able to post.
So, Sorry for that.

A few musings on Snow

It is of course a four letter word! Growing up in Georgia, the state not the county, where there is almost never snow. I am as an adult unprepared for the sh**.

But in all fairness to Mother Nature, it is not just the wet cold stuff that I'm opposed to. It's the dark days. For weeks on end the skies will darken and one will start to grow webs between their toes.

Finally, when you think that you can no longer stand it the sky opens up and it's bright and wonderful. However, it's bitterly cold and you can't go out and enjoy it without looking like a tick about to pop!

After I grew up and moved my life to Michigan, My folks moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. So instead of going to GA for the winters, I went to UT. Then(in summer of course), I fell in love with my handsome partner for life. He has a job here so here is where I now winter.

A difference in snow.
In Michigan, the snow is wet, fluffy, cold, and sticky.
In Utah, the snow is round, hard, pebbly, wet, and cold. ( Good for skiing- not that I ski)
In Georgia, the snow is nonexistent!

The kids were very cute, Elly you need to keep dancing-you're very good!!! Benno- keep workin on those projects you have much talent!!! I really enjoied playing games with you guys!

Road Trip!!!

On my way out of town...Going on an all expence, round trip, all inclusive to beautiful (Are you ready???) Ottawa Ill.

Yup that's right, I'm gettin the hell out a Dodge for a few days.

Actually, I'm going with my very best longtime (like 25+ years) fiend to visit for the weekend with her parrents. In addition to that, her sister is visiting from Napa CA. Should be a cool time. Betcha wish you were going huh???

Utterly Creative!!!

So I met up with my art friends again today. Had a great time as per usual. Drank far too much coffee and came home with a yen to do a bunch of craft stuff. So, I sat around with my polymer clay for a couple of hours and then jumpped on the net to check bead prices for another project I'm thinkin about.

Last week when I came home I was compelled to do a project that I had been thinking about forever. I wanted to cover this old white cabinet with a wild design. I took my paints and just started to place little blobs stright from the tubes then I "finger painted" untill I got the look I wanted. I was surprised, it turned out pretty good. A Fun Look.

Last week I got my letter from MFB about the art show. Should be fun this year. I always feel so creative when I hang out ywith my art friends . I'm really lucky that way !

FYI- Not that you may care but my female cat who runs our house is napping atop my computer as I sit here.

It's been a couple days

Suffice to say that I haven't moved my car in a couple days and decided to do so yesterday. After I found my keys and whacked off a patch of snow. I then moved my car to the other side of the street. I have vowed to leave the house today, even though it has snowed even more since last night.
I've been thinking about home ownership lately. Renting just seems to be pouring good money after bad. Maybe then I would have a permant place to park. Perhaps I shall brooch the subject with my guy in the next few days. I'm not picky, just a little something. One story, 2 bedroom with a basement(for storage)
Well a girl can dream!!!!!

I need to bitch about The Golden Globes

The other night bored out of my mind and obviously suffering (I now know) from PMS. I found myself watching the Golden Globe Awards. Although I do admit to knitting a hat at the time, I do have several observations:

1. Charlese Theron was interviewed stating that she "just got back from vacation"and that she "was getting back to reality". Ok Look, she's a frigging actress (Not that she is not a good one- that is not my point.) My point is that as a successful actress getting interviewed on the Red Carpet, while wearing a fabulous designer dress that she didn't have to pay for while all people want to do is be in her frigging presence, is her reality!!!! Give me just a small break!!!
2. It's Wednesday and they are still running award show commentary on the TV GUIDE station
3. Why is Isaacs Mizarahi(spelling???) doing interviews on the red carpet??? I thought he was a fashion designer... For Target no less????
4. Mario Cantone was on the view and he made the best comment I've heard about The Golden Globes "I'm not gay, but if I was, I would be very offended..." This was a comment made several times but particularly in response to Dennis Quaid's introduction to BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN "...rhymes with 'chick flick'..."

Overall, I found this awards show to be exceptionally tedious. As I stated earlier I did knit a hat during the broadcast (a feat for a person who only uses one hand!!!!!)
